Our Story
Joseph: Our versions vary slightly, but here is the way I remember it:
We met in a class at the University of Tennessee. I asked her to go and get a coffee with me and she told me that she would like to, but that she had to go to work (she swears to this day that she didn't turn me down, but that she actually had to get to work). The semester ended and I continued to think about her. I conspired a plan and randomly called her one afternoon to see if she would be interested in helping out at my office for a couple of hours each day. I have no idea how I was able to talk her into it or even convince my business partner that this was a solid idea, but I succeeded.
Our friendship continued to grow and finally I worked up the nerve to ask her to go out on a date. Those days things were a bit different and I spent all the money that I had to my name to take Elizabeth out to dinner and then to see Star Wars. She never knew any of the details until much later, but it really helped her to understand why I was so crushed after our date, that I didn't speak to her for a week. She fell asleep during the movie, woke up in time to see Yoda use his lightsaber, but then went back to sleep. She said she had a long day and I thought she was bored. I now know that she could sleep through any movie, at any time of the day, regardless of whom she is with.
She finally told me to 'get over myself' (really, those were her words) and have another dinner with her. Since that day, I've been very well-fed.
